It is not difficult to produce something that will last 20 years. It is difficult to design and produce something that someone wants to keep for 20 years.
Enduring By Design Explained
The toolkit consists of themes relating to, narratives, identity, materiality, repairability and evolvability. The outcome is proposed to be used by designers during the ideation and validation stages of a design project, used as a tool to inform their design practice and increase the likelihood that emotion and attachment building qualities are integrated into the end product. Facilitating the engagement and use of material and emotional durability concepts in order to positively influence the longevity of new products.
The Tools
The toolkit works on teaching, providing and facilitating appropriate knowledge, tools and outcomes in order to successfully produce enduring product designs.
The tools included in the kit comprise of an information pack; providing an accessible compilation of the theory and terminology within the fields of interest, and a series of physical tools which accompany this, including a Product Persona Map, The Matrix Map, Timeline and Stimulus Cards.
